Product Description
Ann-Margret perhaps did not leave big or important mark in cinema (even lesser on recordings) since Las Vegas and TV shows were her artistic choice, but different generations of cinema-goers remember this energetic and attractive performer in various incarnations: oldest ones would remember her upstaging Elvis Presley in "Viva Las Vegas",middle-aged would know her as sexy Tommy's mother rolling in beans in infamous cinematic excess known as 1975.rock opera "Tommy" and kids today might know her as still stunningly preserved beauty in "Grumpy old men".
This generous Cd compilation covers material recorded mainly in 1960s - Margret has been subject of "Brother Bear" research, for those who crave for more - therefore it might be described as lounge/space age/bachelor pad music although there are some standards ("More than you know"),musical numbers ("As long as he needs me") and even occasional stab at rock (her own "Heartbreak hotel" is nothing to laugh about, all sexy pouting lipps and hips shaking and hair flowing) thrown in.
The first song is her comical solo from "Bye,bye Birdie" but if you survive this growing pains, the very second number is real fully grown Ann-Margret,the heartbreaking teaser (or should we say stripper, since the song is "Let me entertain you" from infamous musical about USA most famous stripper) whispering right your ear about letting her doing few tricks because she is "very versatile" and wants "your spirits to climb" (who is writing these lyrics?).
There is more than a hint of Eartha Kitt somewhere inside of this collection - just like Kitt, Margret had cultivated her own perky image, somewhere between little girl breathlessly looking for her "daddy" or knowing sex kitten ("That's what I like") and if music sometimes borders on kitsch and camp, well never mind - the way she bounces happily in almost Nancy Sinatra-like "There'll be a changes made" (and Sinatra would give her left arm to be as half as sexy as Ann-Margret) or her ridiculously funny "Thirteen men" (she is apocaliptic survivor and surrounded with men,"the only gal around") is guilty pleasure. It brings to mind time of sex on back-seats,car races,go-go boots and mini skirts, watching TV shows with the whole family on Sunday afternoons and yes, peeking at her pictures in magazines, stuff of many a wet dreams.
In the case you still did not get it,Ann-Margret in 1960s was one of the prettiest - nah, make it sexiest - girls around and pictures of her young self on the cover of this CD are enough for purchase (I was impressed enough to look out for more on internet - she was stunning looker and at certain point even out-Bardoed famous french kitten). In fact, say what you might about this music - and my reviews had already proven that I don't care about being cool or giving a fig about people's opinions in general - this little beauty could have been Helen Keller and I would still buy her albums because something about this calculated sex appeal brings twinkle in my eye.
Let Me Entertain You is a very good CD by Ann-Margaret. Ann-Margaret's fame was truly in the 1960s; but just one listen to this album proves she was really a fine singer. The artwork is very well done and the quality of the sound is perfect. Great!
The album opens with Ann-Margaret singing "Bye Bye Birdie" from the show of the same name. Ann-Margaret sings this with a good amount of style and I think she went through a lot of trouble to sing those flat notes just right! SMILE "Let Me Entertain You" features Ann-Margaret's vocal talents much, much better. Ann-Margaret has great talent and she night have been one of the great chanteuses of the twentieth century if events hadn't worked out the way they did. Anyway, listen also for "There'll Be Some Changes." "There'll Be Some Changes Made" features Ann-Margaret squarely in the spotlight--and that's all right with me! The arrangement complements Ann-Margaret's vocals rather well, too.
"Something To Think About" showcases Ann-Margaret's ability to deliver a song full of romantic innuendo and the strings are used to great advantage. "The Good Life" shines and sparkles when Ann-Margaret takes over and sings this out so well! Ann-Margaret aces this without the slightest effort and her excellent sense of timing enhances her performance considerably. "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" again proves just how good Ann-Margaret really was at singing a song; there's a dated line or two but this Ann-Margaret's rendition is very strong and it holds its own very well.
"That's What I Like" is another romantic slow tune just perfect for dancing with your sweetheart all alone in your living room late at night with the lights down low; and "Heartbreak Hotel" shows how well Ann-Margaret could cover even an Elvis tune! The harmonica really spices up the arrangement and overall "Heartbreak Hotel" is a highlight of this album. In addition, Ann-Margaret bats yet another tune straight out of the ballpark--"C'est Si Bon" is very well performed and Ann-Margaret practically owns this after she puts her own stamp on "C'est Si Bon."
"I Wanna Be Loved" is an excellent ballad that Ann-Margaret does with heart and soul; and there's also another great performance when Ann-Margaret performs "It Do Me So Good." Ann-Margaret never skips a beat!
Overall, Ann-Margaret could really sing! I highly recommend this CD for fans of classic pop vocals. Enjoy!
This CD compiles some songs from Ann-Margret's stint with RCA Records. She is a good singer, and recorded several good songs, but had very limited success. The great "I Just Don't Understand" was the only real hit song she ever had. But like I said, she recorded many other good songs, with several of them being on this CD. If you are a fan of Ann-Margret, you will be sure to enjoy this CD.
WHILE THIS IS A GREAT COLLECTION, IT SHOULD'VE FEATURED HER RENDITION OF "JIM DANDY".ANN MARGRET EXUDES A SPECIAL SEXUALITY THROUGH HER SOMEWHAT NASAL(TEETH GRIPPED) RENDITIONS.SHE PROJECTED A SPECIAL ENERGY AND PERSONNA. WHILE NOT NECESSARILY KNOWN FOR ANY PARTICULAR SONG OTHER THAN "I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND" WHICH WAS A HIT IN THE 60'S, SHE LIKE LIKE MARILYN MONROE AND ANNETTE FUNICELLO EXUDES A SPECIAL ENERGY THROUGH HER SINGING THAT LIGHTENS YOUR SPIRIT.YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE THEM TO FEEL THEIR SPIRIT.A MAN WOULD HAVE TO BE DEAD NOT TO KNOW WHAT I MEAN! YES I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS C.D.
I am looking for this song on one of her ablum the name of the song is, EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY SOMETIMES Please help me find it and but it. thank you
Want to relax and get lost in another world? Ann Margret does this to yu in this wonderful collecion! She is sweetand innocent while also being too Hot to handle! Best tracks are "What Am I Supposed To Do?' a forgotten 60's hit and the playful title track from "Bye Bye Birdie".
If you can't afford the box set quite yet, settle for the next best thing. "Let Me Entertain You" showcases A-M's earliest recordings with RCA...her vocal style was never matched and to this day she still remains an underrated pop icon! Songs like "Thirteen Men", "I Just Don't Understand", and "Bye, bye Birdie" are just a few of the songs that will make you want more of this legend...oh and if you haven't yet GO BUY THE BOX SET!
If you even think you like Ann-Margret, rush out the door and down to the store and buy not one but two copies. One to listen to and one because there ain't no more! The Sex Kitten can make you shake your groove thing. I was lucky enough to have older cousins in the sixtes who were big Ann fans. I got to listen to all her old albums as a little child. But to try to borrow them now. No way!!!!!!!!!! So I had to start my own collection. Try and find an Ann-Margret album of CD. Look for gold in the kitchen sink, too. This was the first CD I found and what a Find. There were will never be another sex-kitten. Listen to her as she purrs over some of the old classics and gives a life to others. The only missing link-"Baby it"s cold outside." I hear she made a recording of this song. It will be a hot time when I find it!!!
It's simple: If you're a fan, buy it. BUY IT NOW, buy it hard. If not, don't buy it. She's just wonderful and you'll listen to it over and over. A mix of jazz, pop, and musical theatre can't be beat with this amazing woman. She doesn't sing much nowadays, so this is all we got, people!
Set the critical approach aside. I don't know if she can sing at all but there is something special that Ann Margret conveys. I wish there were other albums out by her. I could listen to her all day long.
